Artwork (* Please Note Artwork must be on Hamptons supplied Artwork Layout Sheets).
Organise each pupil to draw a self-portrait on a small piece of paper. The size depends on how many drawings are required for each month. As a guide, divide a sheet of white 80gsm A4 photocopy paper into 16 for this. This should allow 30+ portraits per month if they are trimmed tightly around each drawing with scissors. Arrange the artwork and glue securely. It's important to stick the drawings down well and neatly, to avoid messy marks on the finished calendars. Pritt-stick or similar is best. Blu-tack, sellotape and post-it notes are definitely out of the question! Be daring and include portraits of the teachers and staff too! (Drawn by the children of course.)
VERY IMPORTANT : Utilize the whole area of the artwork layout sheet provided making sure not to go right up to the edge, otherwise parts of the artwork will not be reproduced. Use a photocopier to resize any portraits that are too large or small to fit into your design!
Basically, what you supply on your Artwork Layout Sheets, after we have reduced them to fit is exactly what you will see in your calendar. So try and be creative with your arrangements. Why not involve a whole class in a large joint drawing for the whole area or in a central frame. If a class, year or teacher's name is required you must include the appropriate text within your layout.
Avoid solid blacks/large blank areas & unwanted lines.
You might like to organise the portraits in birth months, or class/year groups. Try to consider which option would maximise sales appeal.
Consider making good photocopies of your finished artwork:
Add the appropriate label provided to the reverse side of each sheet plus your school name & school ref. no.
Drawing Mediums
·Black fine/medium pen for the best quality line-art reproduction, or coloured pens, pencils, etc. for coloured artwork. Colour calendars can include a mixture of photographs and artwork. No glitter.
·Please do not use pencil for artwork. In order to make it show up we have to darken the picture, which degrades on the overall quality.
Best results are those with good detail. Avoid shading and large areas of solid black (ie. hair, trees, etc.) Glue down well using a suitable adhesive (e.g. Pritt-Stick or similar product). Failure to do so may cause delays, work to be returned or an extra charge for retouching, resticking or rearranging artwork.
Finishing Touches
·For smart looking presentation, pupils names need to be clearly written/typed. Not too small, as your final artwork sheets are reduced to fit your chosen calendar layout.
·If arranging portraits into birth months, why not include each child's birth date by their name? This high level of personalisation usually increases sales quite considerably!
